13 state governments and 10 local governments still recovering from events in 2021.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) allocated $1.4 billion to their Community Development Block Grant recently, designating the funds specifically for communities still recovering from 2021 natural disasters. Ten local governments and 13 state governments received their first portions of the expansive grant in March 2022 to rebuild after wildfires, flooding, and Hurricane Ida. This new round of funding continues to fulfill the needs of those grant applicants, with $553 million still needed to complete the funding.
“HUD continues to do the work to support recovery from disasters that have disrupted and, in some cases, devastated the lives of survivors,” said HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge. “We must also push forward to build back stronger to prevent future destruction from disasters and climate change impacts as much as possible.”
